Series: Sensuality of black plus-size women by David Moko James

Alexa Wilkie
28 January 2022

David “Moko Jumbie” James was born in 1975 in the cultural melting pot called the United States but grew up in the islands of Trinidad & Tobago. It was here he developed his penchant for art and the Caribbean culture.

Moko Jumbie received his associate degree from Essex County College in Engineering and Mathematics in 1997. It was at this point that he decided to pursue a lucrative career in Graphic Design. David “Moko Jumbie”.

“So here’s the second of my Plus size heroes. She might not be quite as well known as Captain Marvel, but Misty Knight definitely has her Uber fans, both from the comics, and TV (she was in the Luke Cage Netflix series). If I were to guess, her popularity is due to her no-nonsense attitude, vibrant personality, and funk-inspired sense of style. The character wears her 70s origin unabashedly on her sleeve.”
More experimentation. Pretty rough and digital painterly. I do know at least a few of my followers will like this style.

“When I do portraits, there’s usually something about the subject, something aesthetically interesting that I see and say to myself “oh, that’s cool.” It could be anything, like how the light plays against a cheekbone, or the texture of stretch marks on the swell of a breast, or just a particular pose the person has at that moment.”

It’s still Summer somewhere right?
