Roots Revealed: Contemporary Art of the Caribbean Diaspora (exhibition)

July 31 – September 11, 2021 ▪︎ presented by Seymour Gallery in Canada

Conceptualized and curated by Krystal Paraboo, Roots Revealed serves as a process of challenging the systemic inadequacies of colonial arts institutions in British Columbia by expanding their geographical and cultural scope of artists trained in a contemporary visual arts practice.


Stuart Davis in Havana, (exhibition)

June 30th – August 13th, 2021 ▪︎ presented by Kasmin Gallery in New York.

Curated by Priscilla Vail Caldwell in collaboration with Earl Davis and the Estate of Stuart Davis, the exhibition will be on view at 297 Tenth Avenue from June 30–August 13, 2021. This is the second solo exhibition of work by the artist at Kasmin since the gallery began representing the Estate in 2018, and the first to focus on Davis’ time in Cuba.


Caribbean Linked VI Virtual Edition 2021 (residency)

July 30th – August 31st, 2021 ▪︎ presented by Caribbean Linked VI in Aruba.

The regional residency Caribbean Linked VI, co-managed by Ateliers ’89 (Aruba), The Fresh Milk Art Platform (Barbados) and ARC Magazine will be changing its focus this year in light of the severe impacts that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought upon the lives of artists regionally.


Rafael Trelles, “AXIS MUNDI” (exhibition)

June 17th – July 24th, 2021 ▪︎ presented by October Gallery, in London.

October Gallery presents “Axis Mundi,” a solo exhibition by Puerto Rican artist Rafael Trelles. This first solo exhibition of new works by Rafael Trelles, explores the notion of the Axis Mundi, a mythic tree that represents a portal between this and other worlds.


Counter Flags (exhibition)

June 24th – August 22nd, 2021 ▪︎ presented by the Abrons Arts Center in New York.

Curated by Natalia Viera Salgado, Counter Flags reflect on the performativity and choreographed gesture of creating flags. Beyond ideas of nationalism(s), this exhibition explores the relationships to place, historical narratives, identities, borders, language, and the utility of this object. How can the design and presentation of flags be acts of resistance to colonial paradigms?


Notions of Self (exhibition)

June 7th – August 23rd, 2021 ▪︎ presented by Tern Gallery in the Bahamas.

Notions of Self reflects on selfhood and identity within a neo-colonial world. The works on view reflect on the commonalities of identification markers that exist within the Caribbean, and the constrictions or possibilities for expansion that influence each artists’ creative process. 


Edra Soto: Let Love Win (exhibition)

June 24th – August 22nd, 2021 ▪︎ presented by Abrons Arts Center in New York.

Edra Soto’s affinity for the game of dominoes inspired her to create Let Love Win, a sculpture that references the design of domino tables.  Playing dominoes invites challenges, connections, and compromises among friends or strangers, it’s an act of leisure as well as an exciting thrill. Let Love Win sets the stage for collaborative and competitive dynamics that emerge from play. 


Cayman Art Week (art fair)

July 7th – July 10th, 2021 ▪︎ presented by Cayman Art Week in Cayman Islands.

Cayman’s first Cayman Art Week (CAW) scheduled for July 7-10 will connect collectors directly with creators via an annual, week-long programme of art exhibition tours, galleries events and open studios.


Cuban artist, Ricardo Ponce at the Suite Villa (exhibition opening)

July 17th, 2021 ▪︎ presented by Suite Villa in Martinique.

After two years without a visit to Martinique, the artist will be pleased to present his new compositions.


Surreal Black with Carla Moore (webinar)

July 10th, 2021 ▪︎ presented by National Gallery West in Jamaica.

National Gallery West is pleased to present Surreal Black with Carla Moore. Tune in to Activist, Consultant and Influencer, Carla Moore in conversation with Assistant Curator, Monique Gilpin as they discuss topics surrounding the systemic racism faced by people of colour, and how the exhibition and its featured artists explore the physical and psychological violence that continues to plague the black body on a global scale through their works.

Karyn Olivier: at the intersection of two faults (exhibition)

June 25th, July 30th 2021 ▪︎ presented by Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in New York.

Tanya Bonakdar Gallery is pleased to present Karyn Olivier’s first solo exhibition with the gallery, At the Intersection of Two Faults, on view in New York from June 25 through July 30, 2021. Karyn Olivier’s artistic practice merges multiple histories and collective memory with present-day narratives. Manipulating familiar objects and spaces, the artist re-contextualizes the viewer’s relationship to the ordinary.

The Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is inviting submissions for their Virtual Exhibition: “Emancipation…Liberation of a People”, in commemoration of Emancipation Day in Trinidad and Tobago. The Exhibition will be held from 1st August to 27th August. Deadline for submission: July 25th 2021.
