Sandra Dessalines, a Haitian-born sculptor, explores the materiality of paper and cardboard, fabric, rope, iron and driftwood in her work. The artist pays tribute to Haitian cultural values, whose universality she wishes to share. She seals and sculpts scenes of Haitian peasantry and ultra-realistic personified busts, tracing emotions, sometimes referring to historical events of her country.
Textured characters that display a variety of facial expressions, intense gazes, faces bathed in calm, sculptures filled with soul and life.
