Maria Batlle is a Dominican painter who, for the last ten years, has explored the benefits of art in the education of people with disabilities and the recognition of their rights, the Dominican artist and activist Maria Batlle presents an exhibition of portraits of deaf Dominicans showing Sign Language. Caribeart presents her new series En Seña, which will be on view until December 18th 2021 at the Cultural Spanish Center in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

These pieces are part of a series of portraits of Deaf people I have met throughout almost a decade of working in alliance for an inclusive Dominican Republic. Each face represents a testimony of resilience in the face of the lack of political will necessary for the Deaf community to access their rights.
