Visual artist, graphic designer and illustrator from Dominican Republic, Koco Toribio’s multidisciplinary practice involves a collaborative approach in which he expresses his art through paintings, fashion and moving image to name a few. For this series, we focus on his portraits, which hold references to the diversity of Caribbean heritage, in particular how the Dominican Republic embodies “the complex ancestry and culture of people from the Caribbean islands”, illustrating the interconnectedness of African, taino and European roots.
