Diana Rosa is an established Cuban painter based in Canada, whose works have featured in prizes, publications and exhibitions across North America, the UK and Asia. Influenced by her festive Cuban childhood spent surrounded by an abundance of creative energies, she creates works that reflect her distinctive use of rich exoticism of tropical vegetation. Rosa combines the colours of Fauvism, archetypes of Naive Art and elements of Cubist and Surrealist schools to boast a freedom of movement and spontaneity that results in stand-out, signature pieces.
As a visual artist, Diana Rosa takes inspirations from an alternative upbringing where she closely connected with the natural landscape around her. Diana was raised in Cuba shaped her perspective on nature and how humans interact with land, animals and each other. She employed a Naïve Folk-Art style to explore questions of identity, love, relationship and environment in our society. Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements and mixed realism with fantasy. She makes personal women’s experiences serious subjects for art, but because of their intense emotional content, her paintings transcend boundaries by their powerful and intimate narratives. Greatly influenced by modern masters from Cezanne, Henri Matisse to Frida Kahlo.
« I am always fascinated with the human story that all of us are living – often untold, sometimes unrecognized, but always significant. My paintings reflect the natural beauty of human emotions. »
