Série: des boîtes à bijoux vintage transformé en tableaux par Curtis Santiago
Curtis Talwst Santiago est un artiste trinidadien-canadien surtout connu pour ses dioramas miniatures qui recréent des histoires tirées de moments de vie. Une pratique multimédia où Santiago transforme des boîtes à bijoux récupérées en scènes qui présentent des récits créatifs d’événements souvent catastrophiques. Ces tableaux minuscules mais puissants servent de mémoriaux et d’appels au changement social.
Il est également le 1er à être sélectionné pour le prestigieux programme d’artiste en résidence Fountainhead. Curtis a été présenté à l’Atlantic World Art Fair 2022 par Suzie Wong Presents, une galerie en ligne basée à Kingston, en Jamaïque. Sa résidence est prévue pour octobre 2023.

‘Dans cette oeuvre, j’ai fait référence à « Christ’s Entry into Brussels » de James Ensor pour commenter les 43 étudiants mexicains disparus à Iguala. J’ai trouvé de nombreuses similitudes entre la peinture de 1888 et les images des manifestations et des évènements autour de cette tragédie.’
